  1. JOE HALDEMAN - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears on the cover of, "STARMONT READER'S GUIDE No. 4".

Incredible, Joe Haldeman has been around for a long time now but I have not read a single story he has written. My drawings for the Starmont House author series are based on photos sent to me by the publisher. In the photo of Haldeman he is wearing a space suit, but I have no idea why because I don't believe he's an astronaut. He may however, be connected to the Space Program in some other capacity.

And speaking of the Space Program, here is what Arthur C. Clarke predicted in 1999; "By the year 2095 the development of a true "space-time" propulsion system will make the rocket engine obsolete and permit velocities close to the speed of light. The first human explorers will set off to near-by star systems; human history will begin".

Indeed it will, Mr. Clarke, I can see it now; Men, women, and children with their dogs and cats and birds, eager passengers in a long wagon train of incredible starships leaving Earth. Ships filled with all the necessities of life, all bound for the stars. And with the sound of a thousand trumpets blaring, I can hear them all shouting, "HERE WE COME!" God Almighty won't that be something!
